EXPANDING WHAT’S POSSIBLE…
ROOTS PICNIC T-SHIRT CHALLENGE IN COLLABORATION WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PHILADELPHIA AND THE D.A.S.H. PROGRAM
At the center of this initiative was a student design collaboration with Overbrook High School's DASH Program, where students competed to created and submitted original artwork inspired by the Roots Picnic in hopes of collaborating with the ILLEST CLUB. Through the guidance, mentorship and collaboration with Gavin, one winning design was turned into official merchandise, with proceeds directly supporting the students and their program. This opportunity also gave them hands-on experience in branding, design, and entrepreneurship. Gavin extended the ILLEST CLUB platform as a means of supporting the effort
Driven by the belief that young people should boldly pursue their ideas now rather than wait for permission later, Gavin also founded the WHY NOT U Foundation, a nonprofit focused on mentorship, exposure, education, and real-world opportunities for emerging creatives. Rooted in the message, “Why wait? Why not now? Why not you?”, the foundation empowers young creators to step confidently into their purpose while building meaningful pathways through culture, community, and collaboration.
